Calculating the Progress of a Learning Track
The progress of a learning track is calculated based on the status and progress of its courses. Let's see how a learning track's progress is calculated.
- The maximum learning track's progress is 100%.
- The maximum course contribution (or МАХ COURSE CONTRIBUTION) is calculated according to the following formula: 100% / NUMBER OF COURSES IN A TRACK.
Thus, if a learning track has 4 courses, the maximum contribution of each course is 25%. After a course has been taken by the learner, the track's progress increases by a certain percent.
Course Status Course Contribution Not Started 0% In Progress 0.01 x COURSE PROGRESS x МАХ COURSE CONTRIBUTION Failed 0.01 x COURSE PROGRESS x МАХ COURSE CONTRIBUTION Passed 0.01 x COURSE PROGRESS x МАХ COURSE CONTRIBUTION Incomplete 0.01 x COURSE PROGRESS x МАХ COURSE CONTRIBUTION Completed 0.01 x COURSE PROGRESS x МАХ COURSE CONTRIBUTION - Let's take the example of a learning track that includes 4 courses. The maximum contribution of each course is 25%.
- The user has completed the first course, and its status is Completed.
Its contribution to the total track's progress is 25%. - The second course hasn't been taken to the end. Thus, the course status is In Progress (42.9% viewed).
The contribution to the total track's progress is calculated according to the following formula: 0.01 x COURSE PROGRESS x МАХ COURSE CONTRIBUTION.
Learn how to calculate a course's progress in the Calculating a Course's Progress article.
0.01 x 42.9% x 25% = 10.725%
We will round off the resulting digit to the nearest tenth and, as a result, the contribution of the second course is 10.7%.
At this point, then, the track's total progress is 35.7%. - The status of the third course is Incomplete. The contribution to the track's total progress is calculated according to the following formula: 0.01 x COURSE PROGRESS x МАХ COURSE CONTRIBUTION.
0.733 x 25% = 18.325%
The contribution to the track's total progress is rounded up to 18.3%.
So far, the track's total progress is 54%. - The user hasn't opened the fourth course yet and its status is still Not Started.
Consequently, the contribution to the total track's progress is 0%.
Thus, the final progress of the learning track is 54%.
- The user has completed the first course, and its status is Completed.
- A track's progress can be checked with the help of reports. You can, for example, view the Learner Progress in a Learning Track report.
Important:
If you change the status of a course or a module manually, the track's total progress will be recalculated.
Even if the learner has completed all courses (successfully or not), the learning track's progress may not achieve 100%.
This is because a course's progress can be lower than 100%, which will not allow the track's progress to reach 100%.
Here’s an example of such a course:- Quiz 1 (Passed 100/90)
- Dialog 2 (Passed 85/85)
- Quiz 3 (Failed 70/90)
(0.01 x 100% x 33,3%) + (0.01 x 85% x 33,3%) + (0.01 x 70% x 33,3%) = 84,9%
